We recently had the opportunity to do a design job that I love, a children’s room. One of our previous clients was moving into a new house and wanted us to help make it a home. Though our team can handle any type of design job. We really enjoy the blank canvas of a new space since the sky is the limit and we can really focus on what our clients want.

The value of interior design is creating beautiful spaces that you feel comfortable in and are a reflection of you. Since you spend so much time in them they should bring you peace.

On your mark

We started our consultation at their current house as we played the game of yes no maybe for items that will make the cut.  I remember walking into the boys shared room and thinking the furniture was nice, but worn and the boys were ready to move up in beds sizes. With that in mind I started making notes of what would be needed for their new room.

Once we visited the new house, the ideas flew through my head after seeing what would be their new room. One thing was for sure, their initials had to be on the wall behind their new beds to give them each their own while sharing a room.

Putting the plan into play

For this project I worked closely with the boys mother and we came up with a light blue, red and dark blue color pallet against mahogany wood custom furniture.

We began to design their room with a fresh coat of light blue Sherwin Williams paint as our existing base. The theme would be a varsity kids room. To bring the colors together we selected a Pottery Barn Kids area rug to anchor the colors in the center of the room. This was the start of a space where the boys could be themselves in a room  they shared, but we still needed something that would give them their own individual space.

Craft Cuts for the win

Half of the job is researching all of the right pieces for any room design.  When it came time to find large letters for the boys room we had a difficult time locating what I envisioned for them.  We couldn’t find the size, shape or color that we were looking for using our typical vendors. As our search continued we found a new vendor.

Enter Craft Cuts, they have an extensive selection of letters and words in all different shapes and sizes. We decided on large bold deep red initials of each of the boys names. Craft Cuts did an excellent job working with me to bring the vision of my client and myself to life and their custom sizing was just what we needed.

Helping your kids build their identity is key

We chose to hang shelves for both boys on their sides of the room so that they may each display their own personalities, their trophies, toys and any pictures/accomplishments that are important to them and help them build their identities.

I believe the room came together beautifully! As we finished our installations throughout the house and the day came to an end the boys came home and their father sent them up to see their room. From downstairs I could hear their excitement! By the time I got up the steps they had already placed their special things in their shelves. To me, hearing and seeing that children are happy with our designs is the highlight of all our hard work.

Happily designing fun spaces!
