The AJD house bed: queue imagination overload!

So I started my time here at AJolie Design about a month ago, with very little experience in the field. As an undergraduate student in interior architecture/design, I have only taken part in designs which were made up with fictitious clients for learning exercise purposes. So therefore, I was foreign to the real world of design. With that being said, AJolie has given me a warm welcome to this inspirational field. I have already learned, in my short time here, many different lessons in the act and art of design. But, aside from that, AJolie has also given me lessons in business, marketing, project management, client management, and even life.

Ajolie has taught me that thinking inside of the box, without confidence, can only lead to small ideas and creates limits on what can be achieved. As soon as you step confidently outside of that box, the possibilities are endless. Yes, of course I’m talking about design. But it applies to life and its opportunities too.

Working with AJolie has given me the opportunity to take what I have learned in school (my box) and use it in the real world to help clients. Stepping outside of this first of many boxes has allowed me to not only help AJolie’s clients, but also allow its clients to help me. I have enjoyed, in my short time here, watching AJolie’s projects come together as I was/am grateful to have inserted a drop of my knowledge of graphic representation to the full scheme of the projects. Although the graphic representation of a project is only a small portion of the work/process of design, it is important for better understanding and communication.

In our crazy, idea-packed minds, we often times imagine exactly what a design may look like. But, when the space is created into a 3-dimensional drawing with accurate lighting, color scheme, and accurate scale, it becomes easier to make decisions and changes prior to purchasing and physically arranging all aspects of the design. Clients are also able to have a better understanding of what their space will look and feel like. I truly think that this better understanding and communication leads to more satisfied clients as they are able to see the proposed space come to life before it actually does, physically.

After sharing my experiences with both AJolie Design and graphic representation, I have realized that they both have similar characteristics. Besides the fact that they both satisfy clients, AJolie Design and the graphic representation both create possibilities with no limits and minimize unpredictability. In the same way that graphic images of a space are the closest to the real thing, interning with AJolie Design has been the closest to the real field for me too.
