Guerrilla warfare…SAVE the Stuffed Animals!!!

As we all know potty training is a journey. It is almost euphoric for those of us that have bought diapers for a year (plus), to all of a sudden have this extra money (a possible new shoe fund) now that we no longer have to buy diapers.

On my potty training journey I have made many stops, my last stop however, is by far the one I will remember for many years to come. Aidan is currently completely “potty trained” by this I mean that she no longer wears diapers and is in the process of wiping herself, HERSELF. She refuses any help (most of the time) so I have become very comfortable with her going to the bathroom on her own.  As usual on this particular Sunday, she reported to me that she had to use the bathroom (while I was making lunch.) I climbed the steps with her to her bathroom in her room and she asked for privacy at her bedroom door. I retreated to my room to be on standby from afar.

My daughter came out and reported that she was “All Done” we proceeded back downstairs and finished lunch, hot dogs…which I think she will soon turn into one.  As we exited the kitchen I noticed water trickling from the ceiling, as I approached the water, Aidan promptly ran upstairs to get her “rain shoes.”

I heard her scream, MOMMMMMMMMY. Still confused about the water downstairs, I ran up the stairs to find Aidan standing in about an inch of water in her room. So the toilet flooded. It was still flooding, and looking much like a fountain (at which you should throw a quarter and make a wish). As I looked at the river in her room I felt paralyzed by all things….WHAT SHOULD I DO!

I picked up my happy two year old and placed her into the hallway. Into the bathroom I went, I opened the toilet cover to try the one trick I had been taught since a child but pulling the chain manually didn’t work. I panicked, made two phone calls with NO ANSWER and proceeded to my linen closet to retrieve all my towels. Aidan screamed out that her Cat & Happy (stuffed animals) where in the castle; the castle was in the water. We (my two year old and I) started an assembly line and began getting everything out of the room, stuffed animals where priority. As each one came out she was ready to nurse them in the hallway. My panic continued though I laughed (in my head) a little, at the situation itself at Aidan so engaged in saving her things and at the sheer fact that Aidan had WAY TO MANY THINGS!

I finally got the water turned off; I stood in the bathroom in about three inches of water. I still didn’t know where to start or how to get the water up, there were not enough towels in the world. So I used the ones I had as a start until back up arrived.

When all was sopped up, it was Aidan’s “flushable” eco-friendly wipes (REPEAT) her FLUSHABLE wipes that caused the river that took over her room and created puddles on the first floor. But the stuffed animals…damp… where all saved. My potty training journey continues (minus) the flushable wipes AND  unsupervised potty time.
