Let me start by saying, My name is Justine and I have bought a toddler bed. There…. done!
I am finally taking a stand on my firm belief that toddlers beds are super unnecessary (period). Trust me I bought into the whole concept so I know!

“Toddler beds are SUPER unnecessary. period”

This is my totally one sided opinion as a mother/designer but I have come to find that the beds are really a waste of time and money. Our children start off in cribs, for the most part (if you skip the crib then MAYBE a toddler bed is okay.) Most all cribs now convert to daybeds or full size beds. Trust me when I say use the convertible feature, why? because toddler beds use the same mattress as the crib so there is no difference there.
My original thought was that my daughter would feel like she was a big girl with the princess themed toddler bed I got and she may even want to sleep in the bed. But this proved incorrect and she mostly rebelled against the bed, which is why I feel this way. I could have kept her in her convertible crib until she was big enough to get a twin/full sized bed since they were the same size and I am now buying another bed only a year after getting the toddler bed. So I am now three beds in on a almost 4 year old.
I admit it, I probably half took her out of the converted crib because I was tired of looking at it BUT I still think they are impractical. From a design stand point I say, save your money! When your child has come into their own a little bit (as they outgrow that crib) design your little ones room then as something that grows with them and helps them along as a little person. Watching my daughters face when she saw her now full sized bed was priceless! And now the journey begins as this is the last bed I will buy her until (dare I say it) College….
Haha NO WAY, I’m a designer! Her room will probably change again in a few years…Good luck parents! And don’t forget, I’m always available to help with those rooms too!
